GenoDedup tool @ Exame Informática and Dinheiro Vivo

Date: 12/08/2020

The novel tool co-developed by LASIGE researchers Vinicius Cogo and Alysson Bessani has attracted the attention of Portuguese mainstream media. Articles on the research have been published on Exame Informática and Dinheiro Vivo. The research relevance to the healthcare sector is a clear example of the societal benefits of scientific research.

GenoDedup is the first method that integrates efficient similarity-based deduplication and specialized delta-encoding for genome sequencing data. The ability to compress genomic data while balancing productively space savings and restore performance has the potential to significantly impact the daily life of health institutions such as hospitals and biobanks.

Vinicius Cogo gave an invited talk on the subject at Infoblender webinar in July. The presentation is available here.
