“la Caixa” Foundation Fellowships, PhD Position: Robot Manipulation using Probabilistic Inference. This project proposes a new cognitive architecture for robotic manipulation that integrates sensing, planning, and control, and is based on multiple concurrent simulations and an inference algorithm. This framework simultaneously estimates relevant object properties, predicts the dynamical effects of interactions, and makes decisions that consider the present level of uncertainty. This approach goes along with the Bayesian Brain idea, which states that we form beliefs about the causes of sensory data and use inference to predict future events based on past experience, assigning higher probabilities to hypotheses that best explain our sensations. Group Leader: João Bimbo.
