This project main goal is to develop a flexible and portable system, supporting user interaction in any surface. To this end we proposed to use standard video cameras, or webcams, to track the position of targets (fingers, for instance). The tracking information will be used to control the interface, either through gesture-based interaction or through direct manipulation. To achieve the proposed goal we identify three main research and development stages. The first stage will deal with object tracking. The second stage, parallel to the first, will perform a categorization of touch interaction and a definition of new interaction techniques. The final stage will assess the proposed developments.
