New exploratory project under the FCT/CMU Portugal Program

Date: 21/12/2021

The newest LASIGE’s Exploratory Research Project (ERP), led by Tiago Guerreiro, an integrated member, was selected on a total of 33 projects from the Call launched in May 2021 and recommended for funding by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) under the scope of the CMU Portugal Program.

The project “Exploring the Transfer of Agency to Older Adults in HRI” will allow the team to continue an investigation into the intersection between accessibility and human-robot interaction, co-designing and evaluating the responsible scenarios in which robots use society’s needs. In particular, focuses on the study of agency transference for older people in human-robot interaction.

How can we change robots to help people do the things they value? To fulfill the project’s objectives, a multidisciplinary team (computer science, person-machine interaction, cognitive psychology, robotics, industrial design) was assembled from LASIGE (Tiago Guerreiro, Hugo Simão, Ana Pires, João Guerreiro, André Rodrigues), ISR / Técnico (team of Prof. Alexandre Bernardino), and CMU (team of Prof. Jodi Forlizzi).
